missing the river.
…and the trip comes to an end. Spent 24 hours camped out on our last *poop* beach across from Varanasi breaking down the boats. My body is now fully sore and my thoughts exhausted from all the work, but already processing the trip. The last three months have been amazing, overwhelming, heartwarming, heartbreaking, and thoroughly intense. I can feel a wave of relief and exhaustion coming over me - but, overall I am so thankful. Thankful to the amazing crew I traveled with (Orien, Angie, Zack, Alex, Porter, Charlie, Mike, Ben, Irene, Mayra, Jon, Robin, Drew, Abhi, Satbir, and the many companions we met along the way). I’m thankful to all the gracious hosts we had, the strange deserted beaches we camped on, the help from so many villagers, the stories, the insight, and the beauty of it all.
I leave on a train from Varanasi to Delhi tonight - will be in Delhi for a few weeks and then will return to the states to start things up again. I finally got a chance to finish uploading the last photos - so please check out the set again when you can. Also, please write and tell me how you are all doing and what’s been going on. I miss you all so much.
love,
marin
Knee deep in the Ganges!
Here’s a photo slideshow of our trip thus far - soo much to update and i’m getting rushed outta this internet cafe before dark, but much love and enjoy!
Fategarh, Uttar Pradesh, India.
6am today we were all jolted awake by a sneak attack of 50+ monkeys who raided our kitchen boat at the build site. After a half hour of pellet gun patrol and rock chucking we started our day…
We are entering into our third week of build for the Swimming Cities Ocean of Blood trip and, despite being a bit understaffed, our energy is high and the boats are looking really, really good. Only a few more days until we launch on the Ganges and a whole new leg of this journey begins. I’m really looking forward to being on the water and starting to see more of life along this beautiful river.
Pictures included are of the build site and some great friends we’ve made during our stay here thus far.
Missing you all at home, and dreaming of all the little luxuries I will never take for granted again :)

Swimming Cities Ocean of Blood - Week 1 Build.
It’s been an extremely amazing, long week here in Fategarh. We’ve taken over the ruins of a DNDG College near the banks of the Ganges as our build site / homebase and have been working around the clock getting the 5 boats in working order. We have hundreds of friendly onlookers everyday peaking over the walls, asking for our autographs, and generally dumbfounded about what we’re doing. About 10 Hindi newspapers have published about our trip, and we are generally the talk of Uttar Pradesh it feels like.
Nights are quiet. We camp out while listening to festival music blaring from the best sound systems. We have made great progress in the first week assembling the boats, but there is much to do before we can depart. Life is really good, exhausting, and I’m pretty dirty or covered in paint most of the time, so that makes me really happy :) Much love to you all and enjoy the video!
Swimming Cities has arrived in India! So excited the gang is here and we are together in Delhi preparing to head to the build site along the Ganges River in Uttar Pradesh tomorrow. I’m so excited for this leg of the journey to begin and to have these wonderful people here with me in India.
Our contact here Satbir has been great and I stayed with him a few extra days early. Again, I’m finding that it’s the people here I’m enjoying most - we spent most of our time with his friends who are very close to him and they are wonderful, hilarious, have great manors, are great cooks, and (god bless it) fluent in English. All in all, life has been so good to me while in India - many more pics and footage to come!
